Independent distillery East London Liquor Co. has launched Kew Gin, in collaboration with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
Paying tribute to the plants and pollinators who make gin’s botanicals possible, Head Distiller Tom Hills has created a 42% ABV gin featuring Douglas fir and fresh lavender, rounded out by orange peel, liquorice root and fennel seed.
Earlier this year, the distillery was appointed to create Royal Botanic Garden, Kew’s next generation of spirits – Kew Gin is the first product of the partnership’s range to hit the market.
“We were so inspired by Kew Gardens UNESCO World Heritage Site, and with their incredible team whose dedication to working with plans and pollinators really make our gin possible,” reveals founder Alex Wolpert. “When creating this gin, we wanted to highlight some key botanicals which we sourced at Kew Gardens.”
“After months of lockdown, the all new Kew Gin has finally arrived to make everything marginally more bearable,” comments Quincy Leon, Head of Licensing at RBG Kew. “The key botanicals in the gin come directly from Kew Gardens, including Douglas fir which has a wonderful piney flavour. With the addition of lavender and sweet orange, courtesy of our pollinator friends who are celebrated on the vibrant packaging, the gin is a true flavour of Kew and its values.”
ELLCo. and Royal Botanic Garden, Kew are expected to announce upcoming RTDs and spirits in the coming months.
Founded in 2014 by Alex Wolpert, East London Liquor Co. was created in response to the rise of expensive craft spirits. The brand currently distributes its award-winning spirits throughout the UK and internationally to over 20 markets.
The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is a world-famous scientific organisation, internationally respected for its collections as well as its scientific expertise in plant diversity, conservation and sustainable development in the UK and around the world.
