Atas x Gu:um

Chef Louis Han returns to The Ruma Hotel in Kuala Lumpur for four-month residency

Following the success of its inaugural edition in June, The Ruma Hotel and Residences continues its Atas Key Tables series with the return of Gu:um, the modern Korean steakhouse by Michelin-starred Chef Louis Han, for a four-month residency at Atas. The series follows Chef Han’s debut appearance at Atas in 2025, when his cooking first connected with Kuala Lumpur diners and marks Gu:um’s first extended collaboration in the city.

Inspired by the shared values of Michelin-starred cuisine, Atas Key Tables is The Ruma’s signature dining series. It brings internationally recognised chefs, whose vision aligns with The Ruma’s commitment to excellence, through curated culinary partnerships that go beyond a single guest appearance, aiming instead to create lasting exchanges between cultures and cuisines. Rooted in Malaysian hospitality, Atas is a destination for culinary discovery, where an evolving approach to modern dining provides a stage for chefs and restaurants to drive global culinary conversations

Born and raised in Seoul, Chef Louis Han has built his career on preserving the soul of Korean cuisine while finding new ways to express it. After joining the opening team at Singapore’s two-Michelin-starred Meta and working as sous chef at Seoul’s three-Michelin-starred Mosu, he opened NAE:UM. The restaurant earned a Michelin star in its first year, before becoming the first Korean chef to receive the Michelin Guide Young Chef Award in 2022.

Launched in Singapore in 2024, Gu:um is Chef Han’s masculine counterpart of Nae:um — named after the Korean word for ‘to grill, roast or cook over fire,’ and built around his belief that a memorable meal is about connection as much as technique. A modern Korean steakhouse, Gu:um reimagines Korean barbecue through refined culinary techniques while preserving warmth, comfort and familiarity at its heart.
