Meliá opens Residenza del Cardinale with restaurant serving Piedmontese cuisine

Meliá Hotels International has opened Residenza del Cardinale, part of The Meliá Collection and the brand’s Milanese debut.

Set within a historic 13th-century palace just steps from the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, the property has been unveiled following an extensive restoration by Progetto CMR and Studio Simonetti, carefully preserving the building’s architectural heritage while improving its energy efficiency and introducing modern comforts.

At its heart, the intimate Nocciola Restaurant & Bar seats 40 guests indoors and overlooks the courtyard’s outdoor terrace, which can accommodate a further 16. The cuisine brings Piedmont to the table, celebrating the region’s gastronomic tradition and its most renowned products, including truffles, Fassona beef and Barolo. These feature in dishes such as veal with tuna sauce and bagna càuda.

The dining experience unfolds across two distinct services: during the day, lunch offers refined options suited to Milan’s pace, while evenings take a more sophisticated turn with fine-dining menus and a corresponding atmosphere.

The bar is adorned with works by German photographer Karl Blossfeldt, whose images celebrate the architecture of nature through close-up studies of leaves and flowers, echoing the building’s refined geometry. Set against walls in soft orange tones, the works add another layer to the space’s contemporary character.
