Locke at East Side Gallery has opened its doors, bringing an audiophile bar and restaurant concept to Berlin.

Anima, designed by Matthew Grzywinski of Grzywinski+Pons, introduces an immersive way of experiencing music and gastronomy to the German capital. Located on the hotel’s ground floor, the concept is inspired by Japan’s “Kissaten” hi-fi cafes, predating affordable home stereos.

Focused on providing dining, drinking and hi-fi audio experiences, Anima allows guests to connect to music and one another within a warm and elegant setting. Born from a desire to encourage connection and exchange, Anima’s tapas-inspired food and drink uses fresh, local and seasonal produce to create a combination of childhood favourites and street food-influenced plates with a touch of the Mediterranean. Importantly, an extensive in-house record collection and Anima Radio live stream provide the soundtrack for dining.

An assortment of independent, Berlin-based partners have been selected to provide drinks, including a wine selection by Ritual Wine, mezcal by Algavera, sake by Sake38, coffee from Bonzana and tea by Yoshi EN.

‘Introducing creative twists to culinary traditions is vital,” says Andrea Lannicella, Head Chef at Anima. “Berlin is an inspiring setting that encourages exploration and experimentation in the field of food and culture and this will be reflected in our offerings at Anima.”
