Foodora report reveals shift in hotel dining trends

A report by food delivery service Foodora has revealed that more hotel guests than ever are ordering delivery to their rooms, particularly during the winter months, and especially in cities with seasonal appeal including Vienna, Prague and Budapest.

The study cites that between March 2024 and March 2025, orders originating from hotel and hostel addresses grew by 10% year-on-year, with a steady 5% increase over the past year. The average spend on orders also increased.

“What we’re seeing is a new kind of hospitality experience,” says Herbert Haas, Chief International Officer at Foodora. “Tourists are embracing the flexibility of food delivery platforms and using them to tailor their own meal experiences without sacrificing comfort or time.”

Haas suggests that rather than competing with in-house hotel offerings, delivery can become an extension of a property’s F&B programme:
“Room service and delivery are complementary services: hotels can focus on their strengths while delivery covers what’s missing from the menu,” he continues. “But it’s an added option, not a replacement. Delivery services expand a restaurant’s footprint beyond its walls – but even the most discerning guest appreciates a beer-and-pizza night every now and then. With delivery, they can enjoy both the traditional dining and the ease of a casual meal.”
