Heckfield Place in Hampshire has unveiled Workman’s Bar, a relaxed setting for drinking and dining that welcomes both hotel guests and non-residents.
Inspired by the convivial atmosphere of a British pub, the venue draws on the country’s industrial heritage rather than recreating the traditional local. A collection of 1950s paintings by Malcolm Teasdale lines the walls, while honest materials and understated design create a warm, inviting setting designed for easing into the weekend.
The menu is rooted in local craft beers, fine wines and reinterpretations of classic British drinks from the 1950s. Highlights include the Heckfield Shandy, pairing Surrey’s Hog’s Back Hogstar Lager with a zero-waste lemon cordial; the Heckfield Whisky & Ginger Ale, infused with lapsang tea for subtle smoky depth; Apple, Pear & Champagne, inspired by Babycham, the sparkling pear drink that became emblematic of post-war Britain; and the English Old Fashioned, made with English whisky from Rosemaund Distillery.
