La DoubleJ designs The Dorchester’s summer garden
The Dorchester’s summer garden has been reinterpreted by fashion and homeware brand La DoubleJ.
Timed to coincide with the Chelsea Flower Show, the London hotel’s outdoor space is now defined by bold prints, expressive design and sculptural artistry.
Founded by JJ Martin, the former Los Angeles editor turned entrepreneur, La DoubleJ quickly became an insider favourite, recognised for its joyful use of colour, mood-lifting prints and commitment to Italian craftsmanship.
At The Dorchester, this spirit extends from Vesper Bar into the garden, drawing inspiration from the bar’s bold interiors by Martin Brudnizki. Layered textiles, expressive table settings and abundant floral arrangements create a vibrant and playful setting.
At its centre, tree-high kinetic sculptures by American sculptor Lyman Whitaker introduce movement and rhythm, while a sweeping carpet in La DoubleJ’s signature Napoli Rosa print flows throughout the garden and across the tableware. Patterned linens, green glassware and sculptural vases sit alongside colourful cushions and parasols.

Running throughout the installation, La DoubleJ’s Fantastic Creatures print introduces a poetic and imaginary dimension that emerges organically within the garden itself. An alchemy of blooms, birds and plants weaves through the space, echoing the surrounding greenery and moving in rhythm with the sculptures to create a dreamlike landscape where nature, pattern and motion converge.
The menu, designed by Culinary Director Martyn Nail, reflects a relaxed approach to dining. Small plates include swordfish crudo, courgette flower fritti with grilled prawns and morsetti di lasagne, alongside signature focaccia sandwiches available to dine in or takeaway. Fillings include bresaola with sun-dried tomato, mozzarella and pesto, as well as gorgonzola with pistachio, tomato and rocket. An off-menu focaccia is also available and features a toasted focaccia wrap with crispy chicken and burrata topped with Oscietra caviar.
“It’s always a thrill when you find partners with whom you work so easily and effortlessly,” says Martin. “This was a dream project. The Dorchester, a symbol of high-end hospitality, has been wonderfully open to putting both our energetic as well as creative imprint on their beautiful property. In the garden, you’ll see many of La DoubleJ’s “Raise Your Vibration” signatures: from our hand-crafted Italian porcelain plates stacked in different patterns, to our wildly coloured linens and pillows, as well as giant wind sculptures that we like to think of as Transmission Towers! It is all joy inducing and very playful.”
“We are thrilled to partner with La DoubleJ, a brand that I admire and naturally aligns with our creative vision,” says Luca Virgilio, General Manager at The Dorchester. “This collaboration allows us to capture our guests’ attention, transforming our garden into a cultural hub whilst reflecting the energy and vibrancy of London. It also marks a transitional period for us, following a four-year renovation journey of the entire hotel and an exciting new chapter.”
