Michelin-starred chef Glynn Purnell touches down at St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort

Michelin-starred chef, restaurateur and television personality Glynn Purnell will bring his modern British cuisine to the Indian Ocean as part of the Tastemaker Series at St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort.

The series highlights international culinary talent through storytelling and guest experiences. Purnell’s focus on local, responsibly sourced produce and sustainable practices aligns with the resort’s approach to thoughtful luxury.

With a career spanning more than 35 years and two Michelin-starred restaurants, Purnell’s residency will showcase his ingredient-led approach through a curated programme.

Guests will take part in a signature tasting dinner, an intimate cooking class, and a finale experience at The Whale Bar, where they can engage with the chef in an informal, hands-on setting.

Purnell began his culinary journey at 14 with a hotel kitchen work placement, before training at the Metropole Hotel. He also gained experience working alongside chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Gary Rhodes and Claude Bosi, and in Michelin-starred kitchens across Europe.

He later rose to prominence in Birmingham, earning the city’s first Michelin star for Jessica’s in 2005, followed by another star for Purnell’s.

A familiar face on British television, the chef has twice won Great British Menu, later returning as a mentor, and has appeared on Saturday Kitchen and co-presented My Kitchen Rules UK with Rachel Allen.
