One of Singapore’s deep-rooted traditions, in which multiple generations customarily gather to share a meal, was one of the primary influences in the design of Le Pristine Singapore within Grand Hyatt Singapore. “This idea beautifully reflects the country’s food culture,” explains Nao Taniyama, Principal Designer for Nao Taniyama & Associates, the studio behind the project. “And with this dining space, we aim to support the further growth and continuation of the ritual.”

Other touchpoints include the legacy of Mezza9, the creative DNA of Sergio Herman, and a strong focus on craftmanship and material honesty. “We blended European artistic elements with Japanese detailing and Singapore’s contemporary luxury to create a refined yet expressive environment,” Taniyama continues. “The mix of raw materials, sculptural forms, layered lighting and curated artworks creates a balance of intimacy and theatricality – making the space feel warm, dynamic and sensorial.”

Key features include a grand open kitchen as the central axis, five private dining rooms, and a dramatic wine tunnel with leather-wrapped walls and distinctive art pieces from artists including Rinus Van de Velde, Ben Storms, Sabine Marcelis and Studio Molen. Meanwhile, materials span from exposed concrete and soft leathers to resin and marble.

“The open kitchen serves as a vibrant stage, connecting guests to culinary artistry while optimising circulation and visibility,” Taniyama adds. “Private rooms and alcoves enhance intimacy, while the wine tunnel doubles as both corridor and social lounge. Every detail, including acoustics, lighting temperature and tactile surfaces, supports an effortless flow between experience and performance.”

Le Pristine serves as another example of the studio’s goal to create meaningful guest experiences through spatial storytelling and carefully framed moments. “We often transform spaces that might initially appear challenging – such as the Wine Tunnel at Le Pristine into memorable highlights,” Taniyama concludes. “By anchoring each space in a strong local identity and selecting materials that resonate with the site, we craft environments that are not only functional but deeply connected to their context. Our aim is for every guest to feel a sense of discovery, intention and place through the design.”
