Russell Sage Studio designs The Delany Drawing Room at Dukes London

Dukes London has introduced The Delany Drawing Room, a whisky lounge inspired by the botanical collages of 18th-century artist Mary Delany.

Delany, who had historic links to St James’s where she lived and worked, was known for her paper mosaics that depicted plants with both scientific accuracy and artistic detail.

Designed by Russell Sage Studio, the new space draws on this spirit of close observation, using layered textiles, natural materials and botanical references throughout. The walls include subtle allusions to Delany’s work and to lesser-known parts of London, echoing the hidden gardens, private squares and quiet historic areas surrounding the hotel.

Soft lighting and tactile finishes are intended to encourage guests to spend time in the space, while selected artworks and detailing prompt closer attention, echoing the precision of Delany’s own creations.

“Mary Delany’s work was about uncovering beauty that others overlooked – taking something familiar and revealing its hidden complexity,” says Russell Sage, founder of the design studio. “We wanted The Delany Drawing Room to echo that idea. The walls tell stories of London that are often missed: from its secret gardens and quiet architecture to the history behind its polished facades.”

The drinks menu focuses on whisky, offering rare bottles alongside signature serves designed for both enthusiasts and those exploring the category.

An adjoining cigar sampling room extends the experience, guided by cigar sommelier Diana Turcano. Guests can explore a range of cigars, with tailored recommendations and pairings available.

The Delany Drawing Room forms part of wider renovations at Dukes London, with the full project scheduled for completion in summer 2026.
