Sparcstudio transforms The Brasserie at Sopwell House
Independent design studio Sparcstudio has completed a transformation of The Brasserie at Sopwell House in Hertfordshire, reimagining the space with a fresh, contemporary aesthetic inspired by nature.
The redesigned brasserie now aligns seamlessly with the rest of Sopwell House, offering a light-filled, elegant setting accented by bold tones and inviting textures. Modern, sculptural lighting adds drama and sophistication, while flexible seating caters to a range of dining experiences.
Floor-to-ceiling glazing on three sides floods the space with natural light, softened by custom, multi-layered window dressings that frame garden views and create a warm, ambient glow after sunset. Amber-toned blinds filter daylight, casting a calming hue across wooden floors that highlight rich, natural grain.
The interior combines striking Domus black-and-white floor tiles with geometric fabrics in amber, blue, and neutral tones. Upholstered seating and bespoke acoustic ceiling panels contribute to a serene, comfortable atmosphere. In a quiet corner, a curved banquette encircles an oval table, offering a more intimate dining experience under satin brass pendant lights. Earth-toned pillows contrast with deep blue upholstery, blending comfort with understated luxury.
Tables with wooden edges and inlaid marbled tiles are paired with geometric-patterned chairs, fluted timber columns, and wood-panelled walls to create a cohesive, refined look.
Sparcstudio also designed custom feature tables with integrated bench seating, for communal dining or converting into a breakfast display island. At the servery, open shelving adds character and provides subtle screening for the kitchen, while a stepped base displays breakfast offerings with style.
The design enhances the flow between The Brasserie and the adjacent ‘Pantry’ area, originally created for spa guests, and introduces Japanese-inspired shelving with a linen-effect finish, filtering natural light from the pool area beyond.
“The project successfully transformed the brasserie into a destination dining space that meets the hotel’s strategic goals of creating an appealing, high-quality food and beverage offering,” says Rafi Bejerano, Hotel Director, Sopwell House. “Reinventing the existing dining space within the mansion house, the brief was to create a new Brasserie that combines timeless elegance with modern flair, offering guests a refined yet relaxed space to dine and unwind.”
Sparcstudio, known for its spa and wellness projects, has worked closely with the Bejerano family on a series of major refurbishment projects over the last 16 years starting with the Mews Suites and the hugely successful £14 million Cottonmill Spa.
Sparcstudio were appointed to assist with the refurbishment of the main manor house hotel and have helped to transform all public spaces in the hotel, including Reception, The Octagon Bar and Lounge, the Function Suite, and new bedroom concepts such as Chic, Plush, Corner Suites, and Junior Suites.
“We are thrilled to see the doors open to the new Brasserie at Sopwell, a space designed to seamlessly transition guests from breakfast to lunch and dinner in an environment that balances flexibility, functionality, and durability with warmth, luxury and comfort,” concludes Beverley Bayes, Creative Director, Sparcstudio.
