The Hoxton Southwark partners with London icon M.Manze
Albie, the all-day neighbourhood restaurant at The Hoxton Southwark, will partner with M.Manze for a month-long residency of limited-edition pies and sides.
A local London institution, M.Manze was established in 1902 by Italian immigrant Michele Manze, and still stands as a symbol of enduring working-class food culture.
The original Tower Bridge Road location, less than a mile from The Hoxton, Southwark, is the oldest surviving eel and pie shop in London, with four generations of the same family at the helm, and the same recipes passed down and served up to this day.
Throughout November, Albie will be offering up its own spin on the Cockney classic pie, mash and liquor, with both a meat and vegetarian option.
Bringing a bit of festivity to the affair, the meat pie is filled to the brim with decadent slow cooked duck leg and cranberry jus and goes by The Hoxton Hearty, while The Big Shroom packs in veggie chestnut and mushroom with a rich pecorino cheese béchamel.
Both pies come with classic, freshly made mash and traditional liquor (a parsley sauce crafted from a century-old secret M.Manze recipe), with the option to finish off with chilli vinegar for a bit of tangy heat.
