Studio IV Designs reimagines Laranja at Taj Cidade de Goa
Studio IV Designs has unveiled a complete transformation of Laranja, the all-day dining restaurant at Taj Cidade de Goa.
The 40-year-old restaurant has been elevated from a hotel amenity to a destination dining space with a distinctly Goan identity.
Building on the memory of the original groin vaults envisioned by Charles Correa, the studio introduces sleek metal cross arches that reinterpret this architectural language in a lighter expression. These rhythmic arches stretch across the double-height volume, framing stained-glass clerestory windows that filter coloured daylight into the space and subtly evoke the atmosphere of Goa’s church interiors.
Anchoring the space is a central circular counter clad in red travertine marble, around which the layout has been reorganised to improve functionality and guest flow. Consolidated buffet stations and integrated live-cooking counters bring culinary theatre into the dining area, while a reduced kitchen footprint allows the seating capacity to expand from 120 to 168 covers, supported by a mix of curved booths and flexible tables.
The material palette strengthens the narrative, grounding the space in beige marble and vitrified tiles, layered with terracotta and restrained orange accents that reference Goa’s laterite landscape and Indo-Portuguese heritage.
Expanded fenestration, custom-designed furniture, checkerboard floor inlays and a reimagined alfresco space with a Mangalore-tiled roof shape Laranja into a cohesive hospitality destination.
