The Berkeley is paying homage to Britain’s most famous fashionista this summer, with the launch of a special edition version of its Prêt-à-Portea afternoon tea series.
The prestigious London hotel is marking The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with three new delicacies inspired by the British monarch and her signature fashion choices.
From 30 May to 12 June, the hotel’s Prêt-à-Portea will be served with the sweet treats, which include a lime cheesecake, fresh lemon compote and almond sponge crafted into the shape of one of Her Majesty’s summery hats, finished with a flowery garnish. There is also a cake version of her go-to Launer London handbag, made from blueberry Victoria sponge iced with a mirror glaze and sandwiched with ivoire chocolate. Finally, a suitably regal (and sugary) crown has been whipped up from vanilla biscuit and iced with burgundy, red and white royal icing. Sandwiches will include Roast Norfolk chicken with coronation dressing on rye bread.
The celebration also includes a commemorative drink that acts as a tribute to the Queen. ‘Superbloom’ – which takes its name from the flower installation taking place at the Tower of London for the Jubilee – is a blend of non-alcoholic gin and earl grey tea (in a nod to the Queen’s favourite refreshments), mixed with sweet violette bitters, rhubarb and raspberry tonic. The mocktail can be turned into a cocktail by replacing the tonic with Laurent Perrier Rosé.
The chic collection is the latest chapter of The Berkley’s long standing afternoon tea series, which transforms seasonal catwalk trends into edible delicacies. The Queen is in stylish company; previous menus have been inspired by Gucci, Fendi and Burberry, among others.
