The Reykjavik Edition is getting into the swing of summer with its new bar, The Roof.
The rooftop venue, which opened this month, offers guests 360°panoramic views of the ocean, Mount Esja and the Snæfellsjökul glacier. Located on the seventh floor of the hotel, the space features floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto a large wrap-around seasonal outdoor terrace.
As with the rest of the building, the venue was designed in partnership with the local architecture firm T.ark and the New York-based studio Roman and Williams, with guidance provided by ISC (Ian Schrager Company) design. The result subtly captures the spirit of Reykjavik while remaining firmly rooted in the Edition brand’s sense of refined sophistication. At The Roof, this means slick all-black interiors – including a black ebonised wood floor, black window frames, black painted ceiling, and black solar shades – providing a discreet background that doesn’t distract from the venue’s phenomenal views.
The casual menu of bar bites has been carefully curated by sous chef Tiago Rosa, with an emphasis on supporting sustainable farming. Highlights include reindeer croquettes with blue cheese, blueberry jam and fresh chervil, as well as grilled baby gem, pear, saffron mustard, Icelandic cheese and soy panko. There is also the option to order the best of everything – the chef’s journey – that consists of six different vegetarian creations from the land of ice and fire.
Launching with a vibrant cultural programme, The Roof will play host to an exciting line-up of DJs every Friday and Saturday. Set to be the ultimate destination for lively parties and unique occasions for those looking to enjoy in a one-of-a-kind environment, the rooftop bar will celebrate iconic city moments and host events for the Reykjavik International Film Festival, Iceland Airwaves and Pride over the upcoming months.
