Los Angeles’ Art Deco-styled Hotel Shangri La has announced the launch of The Sidewalk Café – a new Parisian-inspired F&B venue serving locally-sourced dishes with an oceanfront view.
Envisioned by CEO Tamie Adaya and GM Armond Khosrovyan as a continental outdoor dining experience, The Sidewalk Café unfolds as a stretch of roped-off pavement shaded by palm trees, featuring a wood-fired oven, umbrellas and Eero Saarinen-designed white tulip chairs.
A locally-sourced, Californian-infused menu – with ingredients from the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market – includes whole Branzino with sautéed baby squash; zucchini and heirloom fingerling potatoes drizzled with a citrus butter sauce; 12 oz New York steaks with a purple potato purée and mushroom cognac sauce; and the signature Shangri-La Knickerbocker Glory for dessert.
“People coming together – dining outside – eating and drinking immediately makes any city come alive again,” Tamie Adaya comments. “The Hotel Shangri-La is bringing summer to the streets with a degree of improvisation, vibrancy and spontaneity. Our Sidewalk Café gives our iconic hotel a continental sheen – a bit of Paris on the Pacific that visitors, residents and regulars alike will enjoy surrounded by palm trees and spellbinding ocean views. It’s an enticing and intimate space.”
